‘Before Rivers Rise’ tells the story of Google's flood forecasting AI project. The film translates the technical benefit of ‘predictive modelling’ into the relatable human value of ‘more time'.

The visual language was built around time alteration, directly mirroring the core benefit of the flood forecasting AI. Reversed footage serves as a powerful metaphor for the forecasting process itself. It visualises how we can see a potential future and use that foresight to work backwards, enabling life-saving, proactive measures in the present before a crisis unfolds.

By showcasing the collaborative, on-the-ground partnerships and the constant, user-focused improvement of the AI model, the film lives the development journey, ultimately showcasing the thoughtful, human-centric approach to the development of artificial intelligence by Google Research.
